A Vision For Vancouver

In 1925, St. John’s Vancouver Anglican Church was formed.

Our heritage begins with Bishop Adam De Pencier and his wife Nina hosting families and young children in their basement.

Now, 100 years later and counting, St. John’s Vancouver continues to be a diverse and inter-generational beacon of hope and faith in Vancouver.

In times of both difficulty and blessing, our mission remains:

To be a community of contrast, gripped by the Gospel of grace, sharing Christ with our city.

REACH is an initiative to establish a permanent church home for St. John’s Vancouver, and to connect Vancouver and beyond to the life-changing gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our congregation has been meeting in leased accommodation since 2011. While we are extremely grateful for the space we have been given, renting for our ministry puts us in a precarious position, at risk of an uncertain future. Added to the intrinsic instability of renting, all of our ministries currently experience limitations:

Scheduling conflicts with other renting parties

No last minute flexibility

No weddings, conferences, or spontaneous hospitality on Saturdays

No storage space to allow ministries to keep materials on site, thereby limiting their resources

Costs of renting both inside and outside our accommodation limits budget flexibility

Our plan is to establish a permanent home for St. John’s Vancouver that will enable us to continue the work we’ve been given for generations to come.

With 100 years of God’s grace and faithfulness behind us, we believe we are given a vital charge for the next 100 years:

  • To embrace a changing Vancouver with the love of Christ.

  • To steward and use our many gifts to equip people for ministry locally and across Canada.

  • To build a stable mission base that entrusts our gospel witness and work to future generations.
